I have finally finished Elsa! Yay! I actually finished her in early December, but have been very lazy about posting her.
She’s one of the few princesses without a redesign, and I’m honestly not sure if it’s because she’s so new, or because they just dumped glitter all over her from the get-go. At least it makes sense for her, because snow and ice do sparkle.
Her hair was a challenge… all those loose, wind-swept ends! And a French braid. Yarn just doesn’t behave like real hair. But hot glue to the rescue! Looks pretty good now smile emoticon I even found some snowflake buttons to put in her hair.
Her dress has a lot of texture in the movie and artwork, and I wanted to preserve that. I had to make her dress pattern from scratch, and I’m still not sure what I think of it. Yarn… doesn’t really work like flowy fabric. Her bodice was made from a sequined ribbon, which was the closest thing I could find to whatever her bodice is supposed to be made out of (ice? That just doesn’t seem practical). Her sleeves and cape I made from a very thin gauzy material (sewing practice, woo-hoo). I hand painted on the snowflake design with glitter glue, so she does indeed sparkle.
She stands on her own at 9.25” tall, and took so many hours I lost track.
